A couple weeks back Strong Cincinnati hosted it’s first community ideation meeting where members of the Madisonville community and Strong Cincinnati met at John P Parker Elementary. This started the first of several gatherings to understand and learn about character strengths and how they can have a positive impact on their community. We heard about some of the successes seen from character strength implementation at John P Parker from some of their 1st Grade students and from the school’s principal Dr. Mack.
After some fun character strength activities we broke up into small groups to begin thinking of different ways character strengths could be implemented within Madisonville. We were able to uncover a lot of creative and fun ideas that people had that they wanted to do as projects in Madisonville! Some of the ideas that came from the meeting were:
- Art everywhere throughout the community – on sewer grates, make the crosswalks art, in gardens, and sculptures.
- Festivals that attract different cultures and encourage diversity to help express Madisonville’s unique identity.
- Activate some of the vacant spaces in Madisonville to turn them into areas that would bring people together and enjoy the space.
- Intergenerational learning programs to connect students with community members of all ages to learn about and utilize strengths.
If you would like to get more involved with the Strong Cincinnati initiative in Madisonville we will be hosting a series of awareness events on February 9,15, and 18. We are also still looking for mentors to help get involved with the strength projects that are coming up- if you would like to get involved please contact Carly Rospert at Rospert.Carly@mayersonacademy.org 513-535-0942 to set something up!
